Puffy eyes can be the result of a sleepless night, sinus pressure, allergies, crying and poor diet. Regardless of what’s causing them, they make you look tired, and no one wants to look tired. No matter the cause, relax. There are a handful of natural remedies that will take the swelling down, rejuvenating your eyes and making you look wide awake.

Cold Milk Therapy

Cold milk is an easy remedy for reducing eye swelling, no matter what the cause. Set a dish of fresh milk in the freezer for fifteen minutes to lower the temperature. Remove the milk from the freezer, dip two clean cotton balls into the dish, and squeeze out the excess milk. Lay the milk-saturated cotton balls over your eyes for ten minutes.

Tea Bag Treatment

Green and black tea have have incredible healing power. Boil a cup of water and soak two tea bags in the water for three minutes. Remove them and allow them to cool. Do not place hot tea bags over your eyes, as the skin is sensitive and will burn easily. Place warm tea bags over your eyes and lie down to rest for ten minutes. When you remove the teabags, your eyes will be refreshed and less swollen because the caffeine in the tea will constrict the blood vessels.

Sliced Fruit or Vegetables

Cold cucumber and potato slices lain over the eyes are great for reducing puffy eyes, but did you know that you can also use sliced strawberries? All three have astringent properties that help reduce swelling around the eyes. Make sure they are really cold, and lie down with the slices over your eyes.

Cold Spoons

I once went to visit a friend, and when I opened her refrigerator to get the iced tea out for a drink, I saw two spoons in the butter compartment. When I asked her why she had spoons in her fridge, she told me her grandmother told her as a teen that cold spoons over your eyes was a no-fuss way to reduce swelling.

Lifestyle Changes

Making a few simple lifestyle changes may be just enough to reduce swelling without having to apply hot and cold treatments on a regular basis. For example, stop yourself for reaching for the salt. Flush excess salt out of your body by drinking plenty of water.

If you tend to drink a lot of alcohol, cut back how much you drink. Too much alcohol can cause bloating and swelling, not to mention a host of other health problems over time.

Get plenty of sleep, and try elevating your head when you do sleep.

Curing puffy eyes is simple enough, without having to spend your paycheck on expensive cosmetic creams designed to do the same trick. Besides, all of the above tips are completely natural, and you probably have everything you need to do it right in your kitchen refrigerator.
