Good news for Wii addicts! According to Daily Dose, the Nintendo Wii will soon be stamped with the American Heart Association’s official logo, which is a first for any video game console. Together, both Nintendo and the AHA hope to promote more active lifestyles in order to combatĀ obesity.

The Wii is different from other video gaming system since it engages players in a more physically active way, especially with the Wii Fit, which focuses on exercise and fitness. For those still skeptical about the Wii/AHA partnership, however, your skepticism may be for good reason, as there is money involved. TheĀ AHA has disclosed that as part of the deal, Nintendo will pay the AHA $1.5 million over the next three years for the rights to the branding.

According to M&G, in one study, the Nintendo Wii (not the Wii Fit) did prove to make players work up a sweat, but failed as an effective form of cardiovascular exercise. I think players realize that it’s not the same as going for a vigorous run or a swim — although isn’t some exercise better than no exercise at all? The study found that playing 30 minutes of Wii was more taxing than 30 minutes of walking through a local park, though.

Play on, Wii addicts, play on!
