For many of us, gaining weight is not an issue. In fact, we’re usually watching our portions and calories in order to maintain a healthy size and mindset. But in this recent Today Show segment, we’re introduced to Lizze Velasquez, a 61 pound college senior, who has a rare condition that prevents her from gaining any weight. She consumes up to 5,000 calories per day, but is unable to gain any weight.
The Daily Telegraph reports that she’s now a part of a genetic study at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. They believe that Velasquez may have a form of Neonatal Progeroid Syndrome (NPS), which causes accelerated aging, fat loss from the face and body, and tissue degeneration. She stays positive and even has a book due out in September and says, “People have asked me if I had a miracle or a chance to change the way I look, I honestly know I would never do that. God made me the way I am for a reason and I would never change that. I lead a normal life as much as possible and deal with the bumps in the road as they come along”
Talk about inspirational.
