You probably read that and thought, “Why on earth would anyone alter their body for the sake of love?” And you would be right to ask such a thing, but I’m not talking about emotional or romantic love, at least not in the way you might think.

Being overweight may have an impact on your social life and romantic partnerships, but what about the people in your life who love and depend on you? Your kids? Your family members? Your friends? Your significant other? YOURSELF?

Yes, you depend on yourself, and when you’re making unhealthy choices that impact the quality of your life, everyone around you suffers the consequences. Even if it’s something as minor as not being able to get out and play with your kids because, it will affect not just them, but you as well.

I’ve talked about it numerous times, the numerous health risks obesity leads to. From Type 2 diabetes and heart disease, to high cholesterol and high blood pressure, when we are inactive and overweight, our bodies are literally like walking time bombs. We don’t know when the health problems will strike, but you can guarantee they will eventually.

Making the choice and taking the steps to live a healthier lifestyle doesn’t just have to be about the people in your life you love and care for. It should also be about developing a sense of self-love and respect that empowers you to do whatever it takes to live the best life possible.

So the next time you’re sitting there thinking it’s too hard and you can’t do it, try to shift your focus to love. Love for your family and friends, as well as love for yourself.

Believe me when I tell you: loving yourself is the first step toward a healthier, happier life, and it is all the motivation you will ever need!
