The chemicals in furniture polish are startlingly dangerous, containing highly toxic, oil-based solvents. The fumes from those solvents could cause headaches, dizziness, vomiting and a laundry-list of other uncomfortable maladies. Household dusting helps cut down on the number of allergens that affect your household air quality.
We all know running a feather duster over the furniture just scatters dust back into the air, settling it over the surface the minute you turn your back. But have no fear! A green furniture dusting solution is here to save the day!
Green Furniture Polish Recipe
You will need: a double boiler, wire whisk or hand blender, lemon essential oil, beeswax, canuba wax, olive and jojoba oil, distilled water and a small glass canning jar to store your solution.
- Fill the bottom pan of your double boiler to the fill-line with water and set it to boil over medium heat.
- Add two ounces each of olive and jojoba oil to the pan.
- Pour in one ounce each of beeswax and canuba wax and stir slowly.
- As the wax begins to melt and blend into the oil solution, add three to four drops of lemon essential oil.
- Remove from heat.
- Slowly pour in four ounces of distilled water, pausing to whisk quickly as you pour.
- Whisk or blend until the solution thickens.
- Pour into a small glass canning jar for storage.
- Dab a lint-free cloth into the furniture polish and rub it into wooden furniture, buffing and polishing until the oils are absorbed.

Voila! Dust-free clean without the harsh chemicals. The great thing about this is you can store it and reuse it for up to six months after whipping it up. Just to keep yourself on task, consider writing the create date on the top of the lid.
