Ten Year-Old Chef Inspires with Healthy Cooking Quest

How can you get your kids to eat healthy food? Get them to cook it! Ten year-old Marshall Reid of Sanford, North Carolina, is a child chef who cooks up healthy versions of popular dishes – and he’s already lost 11 pounds. He’s on a 31-day mission called Portion Size Me, inspired by Super Size Me. In one video he posted on CNN’s iReport page, he made a healthy taco salad by skipping the fried taco shell and and including lettuce, ground turkey and beef, low-fat cheese, light sour cream, tomatoes, and cilantro. Check it out:

Marshall’s mother, Alex Reid, said the challenge wasn’t about pounds, but making better lifestyle choices. Marshall also wants to become more active and has told his mother he wants to start playing football this year. “We have to keep this going, because he’s excited and full of energy,” Alex said.

Exactly! Let’s get kids INVOLVED in healthy eating, rather than trying to lecture them or police them. Get them cooking! Get them inventing recipes! Marshall’s story is a great inspiration and motivation.
